I (kinda) left my only social network
Lately I wasn't feeling comfortable with my online presence. It's not that anything in particular has changed, but it is what it is. I am (was) only active in one singular social network, Bluesky, which I used to keep open through deck.blue on my second monitor all day. It was a nice way to keep on the background and have a constant flow of news, memes and updates from my mutuals, but then I noticed it hurt my mental health for a bunch of (mostly personal) reasons; so I decided to take a break and just remove the pinned tab from my browser.
It's not like I erased my account: it's still there and if you mention me I'll see it. Every now and then I log in, but mostly just when someone sends me a Bluesky link because otherwise I don't open it. Even on my phone, because I have the app installed but never check it from there, deck.blue was the way I used that platform.
Along this, decided to break from my self-imposed obligations (and aspirations) with Youtube. I like to create, to make videos about stuff I like, but for some reasons these last years it has turned into a self-flagellatory reminder that I'll never reach certain dreams I've been holding on for half of my life. Through the years it helped me to develop skills on video production, edition, graphic and motion design, talking on public and more, but it must be that reaching 30s (and maybe depression) is a realization that reality doesn't care about your dreams. Maybe on my next life.
So at least for now, my main way of throwing my thoughts to the void will be Bear Blog. I've worked these last weeks on refining the styles and structure of the site so I can write both longer blog posts and shorter status updates. There are RSS/Atom feeds for both kind of posts, so if you're interested in just one of them you can follow only that one.
I've also moved forward to get away from tech giants' services and created my own email mailbox with an affordable third-party hosting service and my domain. I plan to write more in detail about it in the near future, but for now you can tell me how your day is going through the button underneath.
